Competitions
Challenge Yourself
For those who want to test their skills, judo competition offers an exciting opportunity to put your training into practice, build confidence, and gain valuable experience.
At Westerleigh Judokwai, we support judoka at every stage of their competitive journey. Whether you're entering your very first competition or aiming for national and international success, our experienced coaching team is here to help you prepare and perform at your best.
Compete at Your Own Pace
Competition is entirely optional. Our coaches will only recommend entering events when they believe you are technically and mentally ready, ensuring that every athlete enjoys a positive and rewarding experience.
We encourage our competitors to focus on personal improvement, sportsmanship, and enjoying the experience, rather than simply the result.
Competition Pathway
As your skills develop, you'll have opportunities to compete at a variety of levels, including:
- Friendly club competitions
- British Judo Association competitions
- Southern Area events
- Regional and National Championships
- Pan Disability Judo competitions
- Special Olympics competitions
- International events for eligible athletes
Our coaches provide support before, during and after competitions, helping every athlete continue to learn and develop from each experience.
A Proud Competitive History
Over the past 31 years, Westerleigh Judokwai has produced numerous successful competitors across both mainstream and adaptive judo.
Our athletes have represented the club at Area, Regional, National and International level, producing Area Squad members, Pan Disability medallists, and Special Olympics European and World Champions.
While we are incredibly proud of our medal winners, we believe success is measured by far more than podium finishes. Every athlete who steps onto the competition mat demonstrates courage, commitment and determination, and we celebrate every achievement, no matter how big or small.
More Than Winning
Competition teaches resilience, respect, discipline and confidence—qualities that extend far beyond the dojo.
Whether your ambition is to become a champion or simply challenge yourself in your first competition, Westerleigh Judokwai will support you every step of the way.
