Judogi


What Is A Judogi?

The Judogi is the formal Japanese name for the traditional uniform used for Judo practice and competition. As with most Japanese martial arts uniforms it is actually there from traditional articles of clothing suitable for work.

A Judogi is comprised of two parts usually cut from different styles of fabric, a very heavy jacket and a lighter canvas style trouserers.

What Judogi's Are Allowed?

In an official international competition only traditional white or blue gi's are allowed. Although you can buy other variations of gi's, red and black, you can only use them for training purpose. The officials of a competition will not let you fight unless you have a white gi however if stated you might be allowed to use blue.

Different Types Of Judogi's

When you buy a judogi, you by it in different sizes and weights. The lighter gi's are mainly used for a training purpose and the heavier gi's are used mainly for competition. Although you do see a lot of people fight in a light weighted gi.
